The Legal Department for the City of Montgomery is headed by City Attorney, Walter R. Byars. The primary responsibility of the Legal Department is to provide legal advice and representation to the Mayor, City Council members, City officials and its departments. The Legal Department also provides opinions on points of law, interpretation and applicability of federal, state, and local laws, statutes, ordinances and resolutions. It also drafts City ordinances and resolutions.
