1ST SHIFT ECC COMMANDER
Lt. M.D. Chandler’s career in Public Safety Communications began with the Montgomery Police Department in 1990, where she worked as a 9-1-1 call taker for six years. In 1996, she was promoted to Police Radio Dispatcher, where she worked until 2003. In 2003, she was promoted to Emergency Communications Supervisor I, and in 2004 was promoted to Emergency Communications Supervisor II, at which time she was given command over First Shift Communications for the newly formed Department of Communications. The Communications Division receives all E-9-1-1 calls for the City of Montgomery, and is charged with the combined operations of Police and Fire dispatch for the City.
As Commander of First Shift Communications, Lt. Chandler’s job duties include filling all required subpoenas for the Montgomery Police Department; investigating any complaints filed with the Department of Communications; conducting new employee orientation for new hires; and instructing new employees in CPR. Lt. Chandler is certified by APCO as a Public Safety Telecommunicator Instructor. She operates as co-Terminal Agency Coordinator for the Department under the Alabama Criminal Justice Information Center, and is certified by the Alabama Police Officer Standards and Training (APOST) as an instructor of Radio Communications for the Montgomery Police Academy. Additionally, she serves as a member of the Local Emergency Planning Committee, under the Emergency Management Association for the City of Montgomery.
Lt. Chandler holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science and is currently working toward a second Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. She is a Board Member for Executive Women’s International (Montgomery Satellite Chapter), where she serves as Membership Director.
