STEVE BARROW

Steve Barrow joined the U. S. Navy in March 1964. Mr. Barrow completed Navy “A” school as a Fire Control Technician Guns, Seaman in 1965. After a short period, he progressed to Navy “C” school and was awarded Fire Control Technician Missiles 3 (FTM3). He was stationed aboard the USS LONG BEACH (CGN9) as Petty Officer in charge of Weapons Direction Equipment WDE Mk 2, Mod 0. Mr. Barrow served tours of duty in Viet Nam from 1966 through 1970, where he received numerous awards and commendations. He received an honorable discharge in 1971.

Mr. Barrow returned home to Montgomery and started working at Monroe Calculator Company. After two and a half years, he decided to seek a more challenging career in the technology field.

In April 1974, he started a long rewarding career with the Federal Civil Service and the Alabama Army National Guard. During this period, he gained extensive knowledge in training, management, logistics, communications systems, electronics systems, missile systems, analog and digital computer systems, a wide variety of test equipment, and various types of military specific systems. Mr. Barrow attended Troy State University Montgomery during this period working toward a degree in Computer Information Systems. He retired with honors from the Army as a Chief Warrant Officer Four (CW4) with a total of 35+ years of military service.

He started his career with the City of Montgomery as a Radio Engineer, which at that time was under the direction of the Police Department. He continued to serve in this position until May 2007, where he was temporarily appointed to the position of Assistant Radio Shop Supervisor. In May of the same year, Mr. Barrow applied and accepted the position of Radio Communications Supervisor, where he has implemented a number of management changes to improve shop efficiency and productivity. He holds an “A+ Certification” from the Computer Technology Industry Association (Comp TIA). Also, Mr. Barrow holds several certificates of training on EDACS/ProVoice System Maintenance.

Mr. Barrow is a family man and has been married for 35+ years. He has 2 children and 6 grandchildren. He enjoys activities with his family and is a leader in his community and his church.
