The Fleet Management Department is responsible for the quality maintenance and repair of over 1,600 City-owned vehicles and motorized equipment. This is accomplished by a management staff of 4 employees and 75 highly skilled automotive technicians. The department’s responsibilities include managing and establishing a preventative maintenance program; preparing specifications for all vehicles/equipment purchased by the City each fiscal year; receiving new vehicles/equipment and ensuring that each meets the stated specifications; establishing internal production control procedures to ensure proper scheduling of personnel, equipment and parts/supplies; operating an automotive parts section; ensuring technicians are trained on the latest automotive test equipment and repair techniques; providing lubrication services; welding and metal fabrication services; automotive paint and body repair; and dispensing approximately a million and a half gallons of petroleum products annually at 17 different refueling locations throughout the City.
