The Building Inspections Division administers and enforces the 2003 Edition of the International Building Code and the 2003 International Residential Code. They regulate governing the construction, erecting, alteration or improvement of buildings in the corporate limits and police jurisdiction of the City of Montgomery. Additionally, this division enforces Zoning Ordinance No. 38-63 establishing comprehensive zoning regulations for the City of Montgomery .

BUILDING PERMIT REQUIRED
It shall be unlawful to commence the excavation for the construction of any building or other structure, including accessory structures, or to store building material or erect temporary field offices; or to commence the moving, alteration or repair (except painting or wallpapering) of any structure, including accessory structures, until the Building Official has issued for such work a building permit. A building permit is not required for the grading or filling of lot or lots where no excavation is made for construction.
