Library cards are issued to citizens of all ages. Children’s cards require a parent or guardian’s signature. You may apply for a library card at any branch of the public library. A patron may have only one valid library card at any one time.
People applying for a library card must show a current Alabama Driver’s License confirming who they are and where they live to be eligible for a library card.
If the applicant does not have a current driver’s license, two other forms of identification are required to show proof of address. This can include:
Current utility bill in applicant’s name
Motor vehicle registration
Imprinted checks
Lease/rental agreement
Property tax statement
Out-of-County borrowers may apply for a non-resident library card, for a fee of $20.00 per year. Non-residents may borrow materials from the media department if they have paid a separate Media Service Fee of $25.00 per year, in addition to the non-resident library card.
Out-of-County residents who are employees of the City of Montgomery or Montgomery County can receive a library card at no charge, with proof of employment.
Replacement library card fee: $2.00
