The Lagoon Park Softball Complex, recognized as one the premiere softball facilities in the United States, hosts most of the area’s league and tournament play. Each of the six Lagoon Park softball fields features closely manicured clay infields, Tifton Bermuda Grass outfields, and seating for 1,000. Nearby picnic areas and playgrounds can turn a softball outing into a good time for the entire family.

Dean Fain Park Softball

The city’s 40 acre Dean Fain Park in east Montgomery works in tandem with Lagoon to host annual national softball tournaments which bring thousands of visitors to Alabama’s capital city. Call us for more information about league play and learn how you can join the fun.

YOUTH BASEBALL AND SOFTBALL
The spring and summer are filled with the sound of the crack of the bats and the pop of the balls hitting the leather as over 5,000 young people take part in the “National Pastime” through Dixie Youth Baseball and Softball. Registration takes place on the 2nd and 3rd Saturdays of February, and play begins on April for all 9 of the city-wide leagues. Call 241-2300 for league and registration information.

The 24,000 seat stadium opened in 1922 and hosted the first night football game in the south on September 23, 1927. The bowl was once home to the Blue Gray Football Game.
PATERSON FIELD

The 6,400 seat baseball stadium that opened in Spring 1950 is the former home of the Detroit Tigers AA Franchise. Currently, it is the home of the NCAA Division II Baseball National Championship. The field dimensions are as follows:
• 330’ down both foul lines
• 380’ center field
• 372’ left center, power alley
• 364’ right center, power alley
JUNIOR HIGH
Montgomery has the unique distinction of having the only Parks and Recreation Department in the United States which fully operates its Junior High Athletic Programs through a joint relationship with the Montgomery County Board of Education. The junior high program operates with an 8 team league.

The boys' athletics include football, basketball, golf, wrestling, track, cross country, soccer and tennis. The girls' athletics program offers volleyball, bowling, basketball, track, cross country and tennis. Girls also have the opportunity to participate in cheerleading and dance team programs.
