CENTRAL ALABAMA HIGHWAY SAFETY OFFICE

OUR DEPARTMENT:

The City of Montgomery’s Central Alabama Highway Safety Office was established in 2001, and given responsibility for promoting highway safety plan objectives in an 8 county region. The HSO is organized as a geographically separated unit of the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs Law Enforcement and Traffic Safety Division. This department performs administrative oversight of up to four federal/state grants.

MISSION:

Contribute to the safest surface transportation system that reduces serious crashes, injuries and fatalities by increasing awareness and enforcement that influences driver behavior in the Central Region.

MORE INFORMATION:

The City of Montgomery Highway Safety Office (synonymous with Central Alabama Highway Safety Office or CAHSO) accomplishes goals by administering overtime enforcement funds, equipment incentive funds and education funds (when available) all in an effort to increase public awareness regarding safe driving practices. The intent is to change driver behavior and decrease serious crashes which result in fatalities. The CAHSO provides both public and private services. Public services entail car seat training (click on). Private services relate to State Highway Safety Plan stake holders ADECA (click on), and regional committees such as the Public Information & Education Committee and Central Alabama Law Enforcement Committee (CALEC).
