Planning and Technology was created for the purpose of concentrating the skills and efforts of officers and civilian employees working throughout the department into a single area of expertise with a dedicated mission. Personnel assigned to this Division provide support, guidance, and direction to all officers, bureaus, and divisions of the Police Department in relation to updates and use of current technology; training as technology changes; and in overseeing projects to enhance and advance the future physical growth of the department.

Updating and evaluating current hardware and software; crime analysis; periodically examining effectiveness of operating procedures in regard to ever-changing technology; maintaining and publishing statistical information for the department; and initiating and updating departmental policies and procedures are critical functions which the members of this division undertake on a regular basis.

The members of Planning & Technology take pride in their efforts to research and implement new technology which directly affects officers of the Montgomery Police Department, striving to help provide a safer working environment and ease the burden of mounting paperwork.

Our main mission is to research new technologies that are available to Law Enforcement agencies. We are also responsible for in-house maintenance of all Police owned computers programs, and training all police employees in the use of each program that is utilized by the Montgomery Police Department.
