I am Police Chief A.D. Baylor and I would like to welcome you to the Montgomery Police Department’s web page. We employ 510 sworn police officers and 200 civilians. We are responsible for providing service to 202,000 citizens in the City of Montgomery as well as nearly 150,000 others who travel into and through the Metro-Montgomery area on a daily basis. Our employees are professionals who are committed to providing a high level of service and protection to all citizens of and visitors to the City of Montgomery.

Our department is dedicated to community participation in reducing crime. We work in close relationship with neighborhood associations and community agencies. This partnership has been and will continue to be the key in reducing crime in our city. We also work closely with several county, state, and federal governmental agencies in order to ensure Montgomery remains one of the finest cities in the Nation.

Our officers are extensively prepared for their duties. Their training far exceeds the recommended minimum standards as set forth by the State of Alabama. We will continue to hold high professional standards, while focusing on developing effective measures and strategies to improve recruiting and retention of officers, officer safety, and service and protection for the citizens of our city.
