SURVIVING SPOUSE BENEFITS
WHAT IS AN ACTIVE EMPLOYEE SURVIVING SPOUSE BENEFIT?

A surviving spouse benefit is a benefit that may be due in the event of the death of an active employee if the following criteria are met: (A) The employee must have accumulated sufficient creditable service to retire. (B) The surviving spouse must be listed in the Retirement office as the designated beneficiary. (C) The surviving spouse must have been the legally married spouse of the employee on the date of the employee's death.

TO WHAT BENEFIT IS A SURVIVING SPOUSE ENTITLED?
The surviving spouse is entitled to a lifetime monthly benefit equal to the amount payable had the employee retired on the day immediately preceding their death and had selected the 50% survivor option.
