AT THE MONTGOMERY ZOO

Here is a little information about the residents of the Australian realm at The Montgomery Zoo.

Magpie Goose: found in South New Guinea and North Australia, toes are only slightly webbed so they can perch in trees, locally common, only waterbird to form breeding groups of one male and 2 females.

Red Kangaroo: largest living marsupial from Australia, raise babies in a pouch, only conceive if there is enough rainfall to sustain (to produce enough vegetation) live in groups of 2-10 animals although 1500 or so may gather at a water hole

Bennet’s Wallaby: Generally nocturnal and lives alone or in small groups, eats grass and other plant material, may live over 20 years in captivity and 18 in the wild. Found in Australia, and lives in the eucalyptus forest.
