The Engineering Department reviews commercial site development plans for issues concerning drainage, storm water detention, curb and gutter, turn lanes, flood zone determination, driveway turnouts, and other aspects of commercial development within the City.
Development Coordinators assist developers, engineers, architects, and the general public to ensure their plans meet current standards and specifications, as required by the City, State and Federal Government. They also work with the Planning Commission and other City Departments to ensure that development plans are approved so that a building permit may be obtained from the Building Department. Once construction is complete, a final inspection is made so that applicants may obtain a Certificate of Occupancy.
Developers submit plans for construction of new offices, shopping centers, or facilities, as well as plans for rennovation of historic structures. Montgomery's Five Points area will soon get a face-lift with the newly planned rennovation of the Arms Hotel pictured above (left).
