Kayak 101 Class at Montgomery Whitewater
Summer is right around the corner and kayaking is a great way to enjoy Alabama’s beautiful outdoors! Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Montgomery Whitewater and the certified paddle sports instructors of ACA Alabama are teaming up to get you started!

Includes helmet, PFD, and paddle. Demo gear is also available upon request.
CLASS COVERS:
- Trip planning, preparation, and prevention
- What equipment you should carry
- Boat and paddle anatomy
- Understanding bulkheads/floatation safety
- How to properly carry & transport your boat
- Basic posture for full body paddling and boat control
- Basic paddling strokes
- Proper entry and exit of your boat
- How to re-enter a kayak if you capsize in deep water (multiple methods for self and assisted rescue)
- How to empty a swamped boat
- How to tow a swimmer
