Montgomery Invites Public Input for First-Ever Climate Action Plan at July 17 Virtual Meeting

Post Date:July 11, 2025

Climate Virtual Meeting

The City of Montgomery is calling on residents to help shape a more resilient and sustainable future by participating in a virtual public meeting on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at 5:00 PM. This meeting marks a key milestone in the development of Montgomery’s first Climate Action Plan (CAP), a comprehensive blueprint to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and build a greener economy for generations to come.

Registration is open now at bit.ly/MontgomeryCAP.

During the meeting, city officials will share findings from a thorough analysis of Montgomery’s major pollution sources and unveil proposed strategies across several sectors, including energy, buildings, transportation, land use, waste, and agriculture. Community members will have the opportunity to offer feedback and shape how these plans are prioritized and implemented.

“Your voice is essential to this process,” city officials said. “We are committed to designing climate actions that reflect the needs and values of Montgomery’s communities—especially those most vulnerable to climate impacts.”

Climate change is already affecting Montgomery residents in very real ways. The CAP outlines how the city can proactively reduce future risks such as:

  • More expensive energy bills

  • Higher insurance premiums as coverage becomes harder to access

  • Increased food prices due to damage to local agriculture and fisheries

  • Costly home repairs from more frequent and severe weather events

A well-crafted Climate Action Plan can help minimize these burdens by guiding investments, programs, and policies that both cut emissions and improve residents' quality of life.

For those unable to attend the meeting, the city will launch a short community survey to gather additional input on climate priorities. The survey will be available at bit.ly/MontgomeryCAP_Survey until July 31, 2025.
