MONTGOMERY, AL - The Montgomery Police Academy officially welcomed the 2025 Class B/2 cohort during a powerful and inspiring Opening Ceremony held Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at the Montgomery Police Academy facility located at 740 Mildred Street.
The 28 recruits, comprised of 24 men and 4 women, begin their journey into law enforcement through a rigorous 14-week field training program that will challenge their minds, bodies, and spirits in preparation for a career of service and protection in the City of Montgomery.
Chief of Staff for the Mayor’s office, Jerime Reid, addressed the class with words of encouragement and perspective, recognizing the weight of their commitment:
“You are a group of individuals who will accomplish something significant. Stay the course, stand fast with each other, fight for each other, sacrifice for each other. In the end, you will be called officers. Thank you for making this choice to serve and protect your community.”
Montgomery Police Chief James Graboys also delivered a motivating and candid speech, drawing from his own experience as a graduate of the academy:
“I sat where you are sitting right now in these very chairs back in 1991,” he stated. “Look at the people next to you, in front of you, behind you. Not all of you are going to make it. Some will give up, some might not be strong enough to finish. But this is not going to be easy, and you need to understand that. Push yourself and grow.”
The ceremony served as a symbolic first step for the class, signifying the start of a demanding yet rewarding journey. The Montgomery Police Academy plays a vital role in preparing the next generation of officers to uphold justice, community values, and public trust. Class B/2 of 2025 now joins a legacy of those who have dedicated themselves to serving Montgomery with integrity, resilience, and honor.
