Montgomery Neighborhoods Prepare to Celebrate National Night Out

Neighborhoods across Montgomery will come together Tuesday, August 4, 2026, to celebrate National Night Out and strengthen the relationships that help make communities safer, more connected and more caring places to live.

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes positive partnerships between residents, law enforcement officers, firefighters and other first responders. Neighborhoods throughout the country mark the occasion with block parties, cookouts, festivals and other community gatherings.

In Montgomery, National Night Out also provides residents with an opportunity to meet their neighbors, connect with public safety personnel and strengthen the neighborhood relationships that contribute to safer and more vibrant communities.

Supporting Neighborhood-Led Events

The City of Montgomery’s Neighborhood Services Department has supported National Night Out activities for more than 15 years. Since 2016, the department has offered mini-grants to help neighborhood associations and community groups organize local events.

This year, Neighborhood Services awarded 31 neighborhoods grants of up to $500 each to support their National Night Out celebrations. The funding assists neighborhoods as they plan events focused on community connections and positive engagement with Montgomery’s police officers, firefighters and other public safety partners.

Participation, however, is not limited to neighborhoods receiving a grant. All Montgomery neighborhoods are encouraged to celebrate National Night Out and bring residents together. In previous years, 50 or more neighborhoods have registered National Night Out events with the City. 

Building Stronger Communities

National Night Out reflects the mission of Neighborhood Services to provide resources that strengthen and empower Montgomery residents to create engaged, connected and vibrant communities.

Although National Night Out takes place once a year, its purpose extends well beyond a single evening. The relationships developed among neighbors, first responders and City departments can help communities communicate more effectively, address shared concerns and work together throughout the year.

Residents interested in participating should contact their neighborhood association or community leadership to learn whether an event is planned in their area.
