The Risk Management Department is responsible for administering the application process for businesses operating in Montgomery, AL as alternative transportation services, taxi cabs, and drivers for such businesses. The rules governing this process are outlined in City of Montgomery Ordinance Chapter 6, Article VIII – Vehicles for Hire.

The documents below are intended to assist users in navigating the process for each type of application.

Application Forms

The following forms are to be used by business license applicants and drivers (chauffeurs) related to any of the types of companies described above:

Taxicab

Taxicab is defined by City of Montgomery Ordinance as all automobiles and other vehicles, except as otherwise addressed in this article, of like construction and operation employed in the carriage of passengers for hire on the streets in the city but shall not include any bus, jitney bus, or other motor vehicle constructed for the carriage of more than seven passengers and, except as provided in section 6-363, shall not include any common carrier of passengers coming under the regulation and supervision of the state public service commission.

Alternative Transportation

“Alternative transportation service (ATS)” is defined by City of Montgomery Ordinance as non-emergency transportation that may charge a flat rate not to exceed $30.00 per one-way trip within the city limits.
