Recruiting Bureau

The Recruiting Bureau is responsible for recruiting, testing, screening and conducting background investigations on all sworn officers and police department personnel. Police applicants are required to undergo a series of examinations and must pass a rigorous background examination before they can be considered for employment.

The Training Bureau administrative offices are located at 740 Mildred Street and house the Division Commander, Assistant Division Commander, Division Secretary, and instructional staff. Also located on site is the Alabama Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission (APOSTC)–certified academy, the Alabama Advanced Criminal Justice Academy, which trains state and local agency recruits through the APOSTC-required 520-hour basic course and the 80-hour lateral refresher course for officers with prior experience. The Training Bureau also provides in-service training for MPD and many other agencies, with several classes scheduled monthly to help officers meet or exceed the required 12 hours of APOSTC continuing education. In addition, the Training Bureau manages the firing range and driving facility.

Firing Range & Training Facility

The Training Bureau operates the Firing Range and Training Facility at 5880 Old Hayneville Road, (334) 241-2703. All firearms instruction and qualification, officer survival courses, and major seminars are held at this facility.

Alabama Law Enforcement Emergency Vehicle Operations Center

The Training Bureau also operates the Alabama Law Enforcement Emergency Vehicle Operations Center located at 5896 Old Hayneville Road, (334) 625-3703. ALEEVOC is utilized for the basic and advanced training of certified law enforcement officer’s including Police Officers, Deputy Sheriff’s, Alabama State Troopers and other emergency vehicle operations in the State of Alabama.
