The Montgomery Mayor's Office Innovation Team brings together residents, City departments, data, and community partners to address complex challenges affecting quality of life. The team uses research, local data, human-centered design, and resident input to understand problems and develop solutions that can be tested, measured, improved, and expanded.

The team's current work centers on housing as a foundation for stronger neighborhoods, climate resilience, and wealth building. Its portfolio includes improving housing conditions, helping residents reduce home energy and maintenance costs, strengthening accountability for vacant properties, and creating pathways for neighborhood reinvestment. Rather than developing solutions for residents, the Innovation Team works alongside residents and partners so new programs and policies reflect community experiences and produce measurable results.

Current Areas of Focus

Housing and stronger neighborhoods: Improving housing conditions, strengthening accountability for vacant properties, and supporting reinvestment in Montgomery neighborhoods.
Climate resilience: Helping residents and neighborhoods prepare for local climate challenges while identifying practical ways to reduce energy and maintenance costs.
Wealth building: Expanding opportunities for residents to build and preserve wealth through stronger homes, neighborhoods, partnerships, and City systems.

How We Work

We work across City departments and sectors to address challenges that cannot be solved by one department alone.
New ideas may begin as pilots or prototypes so the City can learn what works, measure results, and make improvements.
We combine research and local data with the knowledge residents have about their homes and neighborhoods.
Projects are designed to strengthen neighborhoods, improve City services, and deliver measurable benefits for Montgomery residents.
We collaborate with nonprofit organizations, neighborhood leaders, universities, businesses, funders, and other public agencies.
