Ashlyn Goodwin is a science professor at Selma University, where she develops engaging curriculum and mentors students pursuing careers in science and health fields. In her role, she integrates hands-on learning, research opportunities, and multimedia resources to enhance student understanding and academic success. She is passionate about helping students build confidence in STEM disciplines and creating pathways for academic and professional success, especially for minorities and women of color pursuing careers in science and healthcare. She is particularly committed to serving underserved, low-income, and rural communities by expanding access, exposure, and opportunity through STEM education.
Before joining Selma University, Ashlyn served as a science teacher at Griffin Middle School in Tallahassee, Florida, and previously spent several years teaching Biology and Environmental Science at Selma High School in Selma, Alabama. Throughout her career, she has focused on creating innovative classroom experiences, guiding students through laboratory investigations, and fostering enthusiasm for life, earth, and physical sciences. Her dedication to STEM education also led her to conduct research on antibiotic resistance at Aberdeen Proving Ground as part of the Joint Science Technology Institute, where she collaborated with educators from across the nation.
Ashlyn earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Tuskegee University and a Master of Arts in Secondary Education (Biology) from the University of Alabama. She is an active member of the Junior League of Montgomery and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and enjoys supporting initiatives that promote education, mentorship, and community engagement. In her free time, Ashlyn enjoys photography, reading, writing, exercising, traveling, and volunteering within the community.
