Chief of Staff, Minority Leader of the Alabama House of Representatives
Hometown: Union Grove, AL
James Lee Auman currently serves as Chief of Staff for the Minority Leader of the Alabama House of Representatives. In that role, his primary responsibilities are to oversee the operations of the Alabama House Democratic Caucus and offer unbiased legal and strategic counsel to the elected Democrats in the State House.
Lee is deeply rooted in Alabama and invested in the success of people throughout the state. He grew up in a tiny North Alabama town called Union Grove, graduated from Arab High School and Auburn University, and later moved to Birmingham to work on various Democratic campaigns at the local, state, and federal levels. After graduating from the University of Alabama School of Law, Lee’s work in the Legislature brought him to Montgomery, which he now calls home. He is licensed to practice law in Alabama and North Carolina.
As a lifelong Episcopalian, Lee is passionate about servant leadership and empowering others to bend the arc of history toward justice. He does what he does because he believes that “politics” will one day be a good word and that good people have to get their hands dirty for things to get better. In his free time, Lee enjoys long phone calls with friends while walking his dog.
