Honor & Recreation for Montgomery’s Military Community

A new 14.4-acre park designed to honor America’s veterans while giving Montgomery families and service members a high-quality, modern recreational destination. Located at 2390 Cong. W. L. Dickinson Dr., moments from Maxwell AFB, this visionary project unites remembrance with recreation to strengthen community wellness and military family support.

Memorial Park Concept Montgomery is home to a proud and growing military community, including Maxwell Air Force Base, Gunter Annex, and multiple reserve and guard units. Our city carries a responsibility—and an opportunity—to create a place that both honors their service and strengthens the quality of life for their families.

The Veterans Memorial Park will transform a currently vacant 14.4-acre public property into a vibrant, accessible, multi-purpose space designed for reflection, recreation, health, and connection. It includes memorial structures, quiet gardens, athletic facilities, children’s play areas, and community gathering spaces—all crafted with dignity and meaning.

A Dual Purpose with a Unified Vision

Honoring Our Heroes

The memorial side of the park includes:

A Central Monument depicting soldiers from each branch, crowned with a guardian angel
A Memorial Walk lined with plaques honoring individual veterans and historic conflicts
Landscaped gardens for reflection
A Flag Plaza designed for ceremonies and patriotic gatherings

Recreation for All

To support wellness, connection, and community resilience, the park also features:

A state-of-the-art skate park
An Olympic-sized pool and children’s splash area
A community center for programs, events, and veteran-focused activities
Picnic areas, walking trails, fitness nodes, and green open space
Ample accessible parking

Why This Park Matters

Montgomery has a significant military footprint—including four major military installations within seven miles of the site.
The surrounding area currently lacks accessible recreational facilities for families, youth, and service members.
Veterans, guard units, and active-duty personnel need a permanent, dignified place for ceremonies, remembrance, and community gatherings.
