Momentum 2040
is the City of Montgomery’s proposed capital investment initiative designed to strengthen neighborhoods, modernize public facilities, improve essential services and keep Alabama’s Capital City competitive for the next generation. This proposal builds on the progress made through Montgomery Forward and reflects the long-term vision outlined in Envision Montgomery 2040.

A Major Investment in Montgomery’s Future

If approved by the Montgomery City Council, the proposed 2026 Bond Program would authorize up to $375 million in bond financing, with approximately $350 million dedicated to capital projects across Montgomery. This would represent the City’s first major citywide capital investment in more than 20 years.

One investment. Three times the impact.
City officials estimate that public investment through Momentum 2040 could help leverage up to three times that amount in outside investment.

Why It Matters

As Alabama’s Capital City, Montgomery must continue competing for jobs, private investment, tourism, conventions, sporting events, military partnerships and quality-of-life growth.

  • Strengthen public safety and emergency response
  • Improve neighborhood infrastructure
  • Modernize public facilities
  • Support economic growth and private investment
  • Expand recreational and quality-of-life opportunities
  • Prepare the city for long-term competitiveness

Building on Proven Progress

Montgomery Forward helped deliver major improvements across the city, including community centers, public safety facilities, parks, recreation assets and infrastructure projects. Momentum 2040 would build on that foundation by investing in the next generation of public infrastructure and community assets.
